August boasts abundance. One trip to your local farmer’s market will convince you of that: buckets of blueberries, striking stalks of Swiss chard, freshly harvested figs, peaches at their prime, and jars nearly overflowing with honey. We have been cooking in harmony with the fields, and our plates have become a colorful palette, thanks to August’s bounty.
Though our neighboring farmers are busy tending and gathering, the harvest is not quite upon our olive grove yet; however, the olives have plumped up considerably since our last talk. They are enrobed in a vibrant green and have reached the size of a small grape. With the nourishment of August’s sun and moon, they will steadily continue to grow until we transition into autumn and their energy shifts toward ripening and harvest.
Sit with August and let her nourish you. Often, true nourishment doesn’t require work so much as rest. Rest this month. Stand barefoot in the grass; absorb the morning sun; stargaze and listen to nightly critter calls; sit in the shade of a tree, eating with friends; take a plunge in the sea; and most importantly, speak kind words over your being.
